Introducing the 2018 Ford Edge

The Ford Edge strives to go above and beyond your average crossover. It combines sophisticated style with an abundance of space and comfort. You can equip the Edge with your choice of three engine options that range from a fuel-efficient four-cylinder to a scorching twin-turbocharged V6. The Edge can even be loaded with the latest in cutting-edge safety and technology. If you want a mid-size SUV and don't need three rows of seats, look no further than the Ford Edge.

Design & Style

The exterior design of the Edge is distinct and unique from other crossovers. It has a muscular, wide stance, and its clean lines provide a sophisticated style. An aggressively raked roofline provides a sporty flair, and optional twenty-inch wheels will surely get you noticed whenever you arrive at your destination.

Inside the Edge, you will find a well-crafted, spacious cabin. Throughout the interior, there is quality craftsmanship and soft-touch materials in abundance. It is easy to make yourself comfortable with the supportive seats. The back seats have plenty of room to stretch out and even feature a reclining seatback. Higher trim levels provide heated and cooled leather front seats, and heated outboard seats in the rear. Let light and fresh air flow in with a massive optional panoramic vista roof that stretches over the front and back seats.

Space & Towing Capacity

There is a generous amount of cargo space in the Edge. Not only is there 39.2 cu-ft of space behind the back seats, but with the touch of a button, the rear seats will fold flat, rewarding you with 73.4 cu-ft, all thanks to Ford's available EasyFold System. The rear seats can also split 60/40 when you need to haul larger items and a passenger or two in the back seat. You can easily open the rear hatch even when your arms are full, thanks to the available hands-free liftgate. In addition to a large cargo area, there are also lots of nooks and crannies all through the interior to place items. If you don't have enough room inside the Edge for your toys or belongings, you can tow up to 3,500 pounds with the Class II Trailer Tow Package on SEL and Titanium trims.

Ride and Power

If it wasn't for the tall ride height, which gives you a great point of view, you may forget that you are in an SUV. The Edge has a well-refined suspension that provides carlike handling. It delivers reassuring stability while cornering, while still riding comfortably over rougher roads.

Ford gives you three distinct options to propel the Edge:

  • A 2.0-Liter 4-cylinder turbocharged Ecoboost engine comes standard on SE, SEL, and Titanium trims. It delivers 245 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque, while yielding up to 29 MPG with FWD models and 27 MPG with optional All Wheel Drive (AWD) on the highway.*
  • SEL and Titanium trim also offer an optional 3.5-Liter V6 engine that produces 280 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque, while being capable of an estimated 26 MPG with Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and 23 MPG with optional All Wheel Drive (AWD) on the highway.*
  • Edge Sport models come equipped with the most powerful engine in the lineup, as well as standard All Wheel Drive (AWD). An immense 315 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque is emitted from its 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which is capable of up to 24 MPG on the highway.*
All engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and can be enhanced with SelectShift paddle shifters.

An abundance of the latest technology is available with the Edge to keep you entertained and in touch. Every Edge comes equipped with an AM/FM audio system with SYNC Bluetooth connectivity, allowing audio streaming and hands-free calling.  This can all be managed by steering wheel controls and voice activation. An 8-inch, multi-touch screen, infotainment system with navigation is also available. The infotainment systems come with Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility for enhanced voice-recognition and the ability to view and use your favorite apps through the car's touch-screen display.

Ford has engineered the Edge to keep you and your passengers safe. Not only has it been designed and equipped with many safety features to achieve top safety ratings from NHTSA and IIHS, they have also included the latest in technology to prevent an accident in the first place. Available advanced safety features include:
  • BLIS - The Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert will detect and warn you with an indicator light in your mirror if there is a vehicle detected in your blind spot. When you are backing up, the cross traffic alert uses radar to detect and audibly and visually warn you about approaching traffic.
  • Lane-Keeping System - If you start to drift out of your lane, the system can apply steering wheel torque and even alert you with a steering wheel vibration, all to help direct you back into your lane.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning - Automatically keeps a set distance between you and the car ahead. It can also warn you of a potential collision and pre-charge the brakes to provide you with the best stopping capability when you do brake.
  • 180-Degree Camera - Allows you to see around corners at visually challenging intersections to help you see traffic. The camera is also helpful when parking. It even comes with a washing jet so you can clean the lens when needed.
